Now seeing patients in Waterville & Bangor !!! PDF Print E-mail

We have been seeing our patients from southern and southwestern Maine in Waterville since June 9th, 2009 at Maine Eye Care in Waterville, one Thursday each month. Our time slots are limited, but we have been able to accommodate many of our patients. Our focus will be on those of you for whom the travel to our Ellsworth office is very difficult and time consuming: we will fill up our schedule accordingly.   As the need arises in the future, we may offer additional Thursday hours. Please call our Ellsworth office to schedule appointments in Waterville.

For those patients who have great difficulty with transportation and health issues, we are pleased to announce our Bangor location is within the office of Dr.'s Jordan, Self, and Wilbanks at 885 Union St. at the EMMC Healthcare Mall.  Please call for your appointment at our Ellsworth office. We are seeing our patients one Friday a month, usually the first or second Friday of the month, and as with our Waterville office, space is limited.

Written by Maria K Levasseur, COA, Clinical Coordinator

WELCOME !  Thank You for choosing Ellsworth Uveitis and Retina Care for the health and care of your eyes!

As a new patient in our office, your first visit may take up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on the diagnosis of your eye condition. You will be greeted with respect and asked to fill out our patient demographics sheet, sign forms including  permission to disclose your health information to your insurance carrier and other physicians and a consent to use dilating drops. Copies of your insurance cards will be made on your first visit: we will not need to see your cards at every visit unless a change has taken place with your insurance or wilh our system.

Once you have finished with your paper work, you will be escorted by a technician who will take you into an exam room. Family members are always welcome to accompany you throughout the course of your appointment. The technician will review your health history questionnaire, obtain a list of all your eye and oral medications, and go over your family history as well. Please bring a complete list of your medications with you to your appointment. Your vision, eye pressure and other tests will be taken and you will be dilated in both eyes prior to seeing the doctor. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes for your eyes to fully dilate so you will be asked to either wait in another exam room or one of our waiting rooms until you are ready for your exam.

After your eyes are dilated sufficiently, you will be taken into an exam room. You will be greeted by the doctor and a technician who helps throughout the exam. The doctor will ask you several questions reguarding your eye condition and general health as well before he starts his exam. Getting to know the whole you is very important for the health of your eyes! Once the exam begins the doctor will be telling his technician what he sees in your eyes for the record. Please hold your questions until he completes the exam. The doctor will explain his findings and plan of treatment once he is finished and discuss with you any further testing that may be needed and any treatment options that apply to your condition.

We have the ability to perform several tests on your eyes. The most invasive of these tests is the Fluorescein Angiogram (FA), performed by a certified technician. Ths test involves taking photographs of the back part of your eye, the retina and its circulation, and then injecting a small amount of fluorescein dye into a vein and taking more photographs of the dye as it circulates through the back of retinal vessels. The FA takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Once it is finished, the doctor will  explain the results directly to you.
